The right family for you

As you will be working very closely with both the parents and the children, you need to be as sure as you can that you will be happy working for them. Study the family databases carefully and consider the things that really matter to you such as :

  • Do you want to live in that part of the country (or world).
  • Do the children's ages match your experience and knowledge?
  • Does the family's interests and lifestyle bear any resemblance to your own?
  • In attending an interview remember that you can and should ask questions about issues that concern you. Importantly, you must meet the children, a "first interview" with the family may not offer this opportunity. If you and the family like each other ask to see the children on a "second interview". This often takes the form of a day spent with the whole family and will allow you time to meet them properly.

Above all, this is your career, you need to feel that you have made the right choice from the evidence that you have. Do not be afraid to say 'no' to an offer of employment that you don't feel right about.

A good Nanny isn't going to be out of work for long, if at all.
