Qualifications

CACHE

In April 1994 the Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education combined the Council for Early Years Awards (CEYA) and the National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB). This merger formed a single authoritative body for making awards in children's care and education. CACHE offers various courses of training :
  • The National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's) in Childcare & Education.
  • The Certificate in Childcare Education (CCE) - 1 year course.
  • The Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB) - 2 year full-time course.
  • The Advanced Diploma in Childcare & Education (ADCE) - 1 year full-time course.

Courses take place in local authority registered schools and colleges. There are three private training colleges Chiltern, Princess Christian and Norland.

NAMCW

The National Association of Maternal and Child Welfare parts 1, 2 & 3

Montessori Diplomas

These courses are structured around the teachings of Maria Montessori directing children's natural activities so that they can learn spontaneously.

City & Guilds Family and Community Care Course

This course has a broader base covering the care of the elderly and the disabled as well as the care of children from 0 to 5 years.

BTEC National Diploma in Caring Services: Nursery Nursing

This course is for the more academic Nanny allowing students to follow a variety of career paths.

Nannies from New Zealand and Australia

Some of these Nannies have attended a "Nanny" school in the home country, these courses can last from 6 weeks to 2 years.

Nurses and Midwifes

General Nurses have 3 years minimum training throughout various areas of healthcare, community and hospital. Many Registered General Nurses have specialised in working with either newborn babies or paediatrics

Paediatric Nurses have 3 of more years training in caring for sick children and adolescents

Midwives have between 3 and 5 years training caring for newborn babies and mothers, supporting breastfeeding, bonding and the settling of babies into a routine.

Experienced Nannies

These Nannies will have had no formal training but will have worked as a Nanny in the private sector before registering with Hire a Nanny. A Nanny with varied experience can be just as goods as her counterparts.
