If you have recently qualified and are applying for your first position as a nanny, you need to be prepared for the resistance that you may meet from some families who feel that they’d prefer someone with experience. You will need the self-confidence to invite them to employ you so that you can prove to them that you are competent. You may however prefer to build experience by working at a more junior level initially, such as being a mother’s help or working with others in a pre-school group or nursery, and then offering your skills and experience a little later as a nanny in your own right.
